Punjab’s Vigilance Bureau on Friday registered a case towards Balbir Kumar Birdi, joint director (GST) on the excise division, on cost of amassing property disproportionate to his recognized sources of earnings.
A Bureau spokesperson stated Birdi, a resident of Lamba Pind in Jalandhar, had spent Rs 5.12 crore from 01.04.2007 to 11.09.2020, when his precise earnings from all sources was Rs 2.08 crore. It was thus discovered that he had spent Rs 3.03 crore, or about 145.4 per cent, greater than his whole earnings. The spokesperson stated the officer had acquired extra moveable and immovable property than his precise earnings would have afforded him by misusing his official place.
A case was registered on the Vigilance Bureau police station within the Jalandhar vary underneath Prevention of Corruption Act part 13(1) (b), learn with part 13(2). The Bureau is conducting raids to arrest him, the spokesperson stated.
Birdi and different staff of the excise division, in collusion with some transporters and business homeowners, allegedly perpetrated a rip-off associated to GST assortment.
